pokemania strike again
Hi, there! I've been having a rough go of things without my DS (I know, it's a spoiled train of thought, but I really miss my video games!). So Recently I've been playing Pokemon FireRed on an online simulator, and enjoying my play-through so much, I started to write what is possibly the worst fanfic of all time. It details the adventures of Apple, the female protagonist of FireRed, as opposed to Red/Ash/Satoshi/whatever else you call him. Gary is now named Soarin, and I'm not sure what Red's new name will be, but their names all have a little to due with the change of roles and starters the characters are given. Fore example, Apples are red and Red is the title character of the game, symbolizing Apple's new position as the main protagonist. However, they can also be green, a nod to her past and recognition of her starter Pokemon being a grass type.

Hi, everyone! It's been awhile since I posted a poem last, maybe because I haven't really been feeling it lately. But I think I'm ready now.
Summer is almost here.
She's come for us again--
Waited all this year
Just to be let in.
It's almost funny, when
You think about just how
The disappearing "then"
Becomes a sudden,
surprising
NOW.
And the leaves that fell grow back
and the cold that came
Is not the same
And the pale blue nights
turn hot and black
And all around is green, green, green
Like the prettiest picture you've ever seen
And you feel like everything,
Everything,
Again.
Is just about to begin.

pokemon xy fun with SCIENCE!
The characters for the XY anime were also really likable! In past seasons, Ash seemed like this dumb kid that always won because he...tried hard, and, uh, believed in himself, and, um, used the same tactic over and over again, but shouted louder...? In X and Y, the show actually seems to poke fun at his recklessness and absent-mindedness. Plus, the side-characters like Bonnie and Clemont are really fun, too. I love the whole "SCIENCE!" gag, and Bonnie is pretty cute. Serena's not bad, either. I mean, maybe she's a little bit of a girly-girl, but at least the show is consistent about that fact. And (unlike some folks) I liked that they gave her a background, and that she had met Ash before her adventure. I do kinda wish they had more of an overarching plot, though.
Still, of all the characters, Clemont's totally my favorite. I mean, he's got SCIENCE on his side. I love how every time he comes up with an invention, Ash's eyes go all kawaii, and he's all like "wow! Science is amazing!" ...until it blows up and everyone's hair turns into an afro. Seriously. How do you beat that?

artemis fowl book review
Okay, so recently I took the time to finish a series I had previously begun. Hold on, because there's a story behind this...err...story. I was waiting for the first dance of my Freshmen year--the Back in Black Dance--to begin. Two hours I would wait at the school, bored numb, with nothing to do but hope that 6:00 would get there soon. So, I figured, why not read a book? Now, our school library (if it can rightly be called that) is small. Not just small. Diminutive. Minuscule. Tiny. It is, no lie, four tiny bookshelves line up back-to-back. You could measure it with a ruler.
But back to the tale:
Sitting there, like it had been waiting for me, was a stiff old book with a gold cover, font Times New Roman (my favorite, as you can see), paperback, and with that old-book smell that does for me what the smell of warm apple pie or fresh-baked cookies does for others. I could tell it'd been waiting awhile, too, because of how rough and straight those aging pages were, sort of brownish-yellow, like they hadn't been out quite so much as they ought to. The cover had two words I could read: Artemis Fowl. I didn't know back then, but those would become two of my favorites.
I read the first book--it wasn't fantastic. It wasn't amazing. It was good, but in a odd, building-up sort of way. Reading it, I knew that this story on it's own was nothing but an exposition, a beginning. I was right.
I read the second book--I was amazing. The story I had hoped for was the story I'd gotten. To this day, The Arctic Incident outranks even Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. I mean, did Percy ever had to face down a horde of laser-shooting goblins, stop the planet from imploding, rescue his abducted father, ally himself with his worst enemies, and stop an underground revolution of fairies right under the nose of the rest of the world within the course of a week? Why, no. No, he did not.
I read the next four books and loved it. Then I stopped reading--I don't even remember why. And a few weeks ago, I picked up The Atlantis Complex, and followed it up with the final Artemis Fowl novel, The Last Guardian.
I can say without hesitation, this series gets a 10 out of 10. It was consistently brilliant in both plot, theme, and characters, all of which were wonderful. The protagonist is fantastic, and perhaps most importantly, undergoes some pretty amazing changes throughout the course of the story, going from a diabolical criminal mastermind to a reluctant hero. All of the secondary characters, also, are hands-down awesome, with real personality and spunk to them. Even the villains--heck, ESPECIALLY the villains--are marvelously wicked, cunning, and endearingly dastardly. Making it all the more AWESOME when the good guys (mostly) come out on top.
Seriously, read these books. They will probably change your life.

more clamp--cardcaptor sakura, yay!
Okay, recently I decided to get back to my roots and read the very first Manga I ever really loved--none other than CLAMP's incredibly popular Cardcaptor Sakura! I adored the manga and own the whole original series (the first six books), but I'd never watched the anime. And so I resolved to do so! And I'm so happy to say I found it still very sweet and fun to watch.
The plot is actually shockingly similar to Pokemon. Sakura, a fourth-grade girl, has to run around collecting magical cards that have escaped from the Book of the Clow and come to life, causing trouble for everyone in her hometown of Tomoeda. Now, with the help of her magical sidekick Kero-chan (or Cerberus), her video-camera-obsessed best friend Tomoyo (who also happens to be equally obsessed with making fancy costumes for Sakura to wear while she's filming), and occasionally her rival, Li-kun, she must return all the cards to their original form. For it is prophesied that should the seal on the cards be broken...disaster will befall the earth... (cue dramatic musical interlude)

But, yeah, it's definitely a Shoujo of the "Magical Girl" genre. Personally, the anime worked really well in my opinion, but the book had a way better ending. The anime's ending was kinda lame...probably because they went and made a movie afterward...

clamp and their magic knights
Yeah. This one was like-- WHAT THE CUPCAKE IS WRONG WITH YOU, CLAMP?! Sorry, sorry, just venting. Warning, this will pretty much spoil the entire first story arc of the first three Magic Knight Rayearth book from CLAMP. SPOILERS AHEAD. If you don't like spoilers, flee for your very life. Or something like that.
Anyway, I was like, GAH!? What the--AUGH! EMARUDE, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Stupid crazy Pillar system.
Long story short. Cephiro is a land where one's willpower determines reality, and the Princess, or Pillar, has the ultimate power over the land, but she must only care about that land and pray for it's peace and happiness. Princess Emarude (reigning Pillar of Cephiro) is "abducted" by her priest, Zagato. This causes her to be unable to keep the peace, happiness, etc., and Cephiro is filled with monster, blah blah blah... but. Like, she summons the "Magic Knights" (three ordinary girls from our world with incredible willpower) to defeat Zagato. Which is a lie because after they beat Zagato, she's all like, "I really summoned you to kill ME, because I fell in love with Zagato and cared about him before Cephiro, which was the REAL cause of all this pain. And neither I nor anyone from my world can kill me. Oh, and I have a crazy alter personality who's about to kill you for killing Zagato."
Yeah, that didn't really fly.
But, like, Emarude and Zagato actually both die. Which is, like, the WORST ending EVER. I hate it when stories end so sadly. All three Magic Knights were so sad... Maybe, somewhere out there, there's been worse endings, but this was pretty bad. It's so... so the opposite of the things that make a story (to me) feel complete.
The second series, of course, has an actually way better ending. It's pretty much the finish I wish the first series could've had--where the characters save EVERYONE, and then all eat cake together, etc. I get that some people like sad stories, but really.
Such miserable endings make the whole story feel pointless to me... which is super sad because the rest of the story is AWESOME. Gorgeously illustrated, nicely planned, entertaining and even funny.
Anyway, sorry for venting at you. No one really reads this anyway, so it's kind of liberating. But... nevertheless, I feel better now! I will continue to believe in hope--For real life and stories.
